Port of Rotterdam

The Situation

The Port of Rotterdam is currently operating under heavy congestion due to an ongoing strike by two major lashing firms. This means that no vessels are currently being loaded or unloaded, and a growing queue is forming outside the port. While Union discussions are ongoing, the situation remains unresolved.

Shipping lines have already begun diverting to reduce the impact on their schedules.

In addition to current challenges in Rotterdam, the ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge have also been facing disruption due to ongoing industrial action by pilots. These Ports are continuing to operate under between 10am and 5pm with extended rest breaks reducing total operating hours. Together, the two Belgian ports are reporting 34 delayed vessels so far.

What this means for you

Expect delays in container movements to and from Europe. Vessel schedules continue to change with diversions to other nearby European ports likely to mean the congestion will spread further.

Mainfreight will continue to work closely with shipping lines and local port authorities to keep you updated. Our teams are actively monitoring the situation and remain available to discuss contingency options the help minimise disruption to your supply chain.
