Qatar Cargo Restrictions | 8 June 2017

Earlier this week the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and Yemen cut diplomatic ties with Qatar. As a result of this, cargo restrictions are now in force within the Gulf Region.

To comply with these newly imposed guidelines, a number of carriers including Maersk, MSC & OOCL, have announced that they will cease cargo acceptance between Qatar and the above countries with immediate effect.

For New Zealand, these carriers have also suspended all further bookings to and from Qatar until further notice.

For cargo already loaded on board destined for Qatar, the carriers have advised that they are working on contingency plans, and these will be communicated to cargo owners once finalized.

The Air freight situation remains unclear, however despite Qatar Airways operating under restricted flight paths in and out of Doha, services to and from New Zealand at this stage appear unaffected.
