Senior Accountant, Mainfreight Americas – Chicago, IL
An opportunity exists for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in Chicago, IL. We are looking for a reliable and precise professional who is an enthusiastic, motivated and customer-facing team player to join us.

Role responsibilities include but not are limited to:
- Manage monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accounting records are maintained.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reconciliations, balance sheet analysis and financial reporting.
- Take lead role in critical accounting changes, process improvement projects, and accounting software implementations.
- Support the Financial Controller and Senior Management in the execution of strategic planning as needed.
- Actively participate in the creation of procedures to integrate new technology and system changes in the accounting department.
- Develop and monitor business performance metrics and key performance indicators.
- Weekly P&L reporting
- Support and troubleshooting of systems (Cargowise, OnAccount, Mainstreet, MIMs etc.)
- Support annual internal and external auditors
- Weekly vs. Actual analysis
The successful candidate should possess the following:
- Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance preferred
- CPA preferred
- Experience in project management, implementation of internal controls and technical accounting research
- Highly proficient with Excel (V-Lookup, pivot tables, macros)
- Previous account experience (3 year minimum) including GL ledger and monthly and year-end procedures.
- Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal
- A “can-do” positive attitude with the ability to work well in a team setting as well as individually.
