Senior Accountant, Mainfreight Americas – Chicago, IL

An opportunity exists for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance team in Chicago, IL. We are looking for a reliable and precise professional who is an enthusiastic, motivated and customer-facing team player to join us.

Role responsibilities include but not are limited to:

  • Manage monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accounting records are maintained.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reconciliations, balance sheet analysis and financial reporting.
  • Take lead role in critical accounting changes, process improvement projects, and accounting software implementations.
  • Support the Financial Controller and Senior Management in the execution of strategic planning as needed.
  • Actively participate in the creation of procedures to integrate new technology and system changes in the accounting department.
  • Develop and monitor business performance metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Weekly P&L reporting
  • Support and troubleshooting of systems (Cargowise, OnAccount, Mainstreet, MIMs etc.)
  • Support annual internal and external auditors
  • Weekly vs. Actual analysis

The successful candidate should possess the following:

  • Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Experience in project management, implementation of internal controls and technical accounting research
  • Highly proficient with Excel (V-Lookup, pivot tables, macros)
  • Previous account experience (3 year minimum) including GL ledger and monthly and year-end procedures.
  • Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal
  • A “can-do” positive attitude with the ability to work well in a team setting as well as individually.
