Direct representation

Direct representation means that Mainfreight files a customs declaration on behalf of and payable by our customers. Mainfreight can handle this electronic customs process. In order to do this, all we need is a signed approval. Because of customs and tax regulation, we are obliged to have this approval signed by the owner of the goods and in our possession. 

Documents

In order to represent you directly, we need an EAD including Movement Reference Number (MRN).
Therefore we must have a signed approval from you, our customer. Every export shipment is accompanied by an invoice.

The approval can only be signed by someone who is authorised to do so, by the Dutch Chamber of Commerce.

Future customs changes

In the near future, customs will change its rules. Mainfreight will no longer be able to export goods on its own behalf. You as an owner will be responsible for the export of the goods' documentation and tax wise.

Via the new system Mainfreight receives an electronic message from the customs office. This completes the process. Due to tax controls Mainfreight is obliged to keep the original documents in our possession for a minimum of seven years.

Customs processes change

As mentioned before, customs and tax departments change their processes continuously. In order to anticipate on expected growth, customs wants to move towards a chain solution. The planning is as following:

AEO certificate

All companies of Mainfreight within the Netherlands have obtained the AEO certificate and the Convenant Horizontaal Toezicht. The AEO certificate gives certain advantages such as: less inspections by customs, easier access to simplified customs permits and others.
