New Zealand – India Free Trade Agreement | September 2026
New Zealand and India have formally ratified the New Zealand–India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which will come into force on 20 October 2026 creating new opportunities for importers and exporters. The agreement provides improved access to one of the world's fastest-growing economies and supports New Zealand businesses looking to diversify markets and strengthen supply chain resilience.
Key benefits include:
- 57% of New Zealand exports to India tariff-free from day one, including sheep meat, wool and coal.
- More than 95% of forestry and wood exports receiving tariff-free access.
- Preferential quota access for products including apples, kiwifruit and albumins.
- Greater certainty for exporters, investors and service providers operating in the Indian market.
- A second round of tariff reductions scheduled for 1 January 2027.
