Construction of new Beskidsky tunnel
MAINFREIGHT UKRAINE Company performed delivery of strategically important equipment for the next phase of construction of the new Beskidsky railway tunnel in the Carpathians! The Project consisted of delivery of Italian formworks by road, using 11 trailer trucks with a load capacity of 20 tons. The complexity of the Projcect was that the work schedule of the next phase of tunnelling hinged upon the timely delivery of the equipment.
Launching the Project within clearly specified time limits became possible with the logistics operator MAINFREIGHT UKRAINE. The professional team of MAINFREIGHT UKRAINE organized equipment delivery and provided support in respect of customs clearance in Italy. Our Company was selected as preferred logistics partner on the basis of experience in working within a well-defined schedule of shipments, high quality and competitive service tariffs.

Background
The new Beskidsky tunnel is a railway tunnel of national significance, which will connect the Ukrainian railway freight transport system with Europe and help to increase rail-freight trafiic. More than 1.7 km long tunnel runs through the mountain at an altitude of 781-807 meters above sea level. The rock sheet above it reaches 182 meters. The old Beskidsky tunnel was built in 1886 and it is the second-longest railway tunnel in Ukraine. The intention is that after the construction will be complete the traffic capacity of the new tunnel will be 100 train-pairs per day, whereas that of the old tunnel was merely 47. Pan-European corridor will ensure cargo transportation between Italy-Slovenia-Hungary-Slovakia-Ukraine-Russia.
Tunnel commissioning is scheduled for 2018.
