Efficient handling from arrival to departure
Handling over 25 million kilograms of freight each year, the new branch marks a significant step forward in supporting Mainfreight’s ongoing growth and increasing its operational capacity.
The layout of the facility has been designed to simplify the movement of goods from arrival through to departure. Dedicated loading and unloading areas, electric roller systems for airline units, and sunken docks help reduce congestion and handling delays. With space for refrigerated containers and access for road trains, the site allows for more direct and efficient transfers between transport modes.

What to expect at our Mainfreight Melbourne Airport site
The new facility is set up to support efficient, straightforward handling from arrival through to dispatch.
Reliable handling and storage
Temperature-sensitive goods are supported through dedicated, climate-controlled rooms designed for specific commodity types. These are backed by multiple chillers and freezers, including blast chilling capability, along with rapid-access doors to maintain consistent temperatures during movement.
Quarantine and compliance
The site includes three dedicated quarantine offices with full forklift access, replacing previous manual, carton-only handling. Additional inspection areas further support efficient and compliant processing.
Supporting a wide range of freight
The facility is well suited to handling a broad range of products, including fresh produce, meat, dairy, and grocery items. Its expanded capacity gives customers greater flexibility when moving seasonal or high-volume shipments.
Sustainability and amenities
Sustainability initiatives have been built into the site, including solar power, water systems, and electric vehicle charging. The use of an electric pick-up and delivery (PUD) trucks is another step towards reducing environmental impact in day-to-day operations.
Experience you can rely on
The facility is supported by a team with extensive experience across airfreight and perishables, including handling bulk, dry goods, dangerous goods, and temperature-controlled cargo. This experience helps ensure freight is managed carefully and consistently at every stage.
Security
The facility includes high-security fencing and monitored access, supported by AI-enabled CCTV for tracking and identification across the site.
