Mainfreight Poland joins international initiative to Give Nepali Children a School

Since  25th of April 2015, Nepal has been suffering from severe earthquakes.  In the region of Sindhupalchok alone,  more than 2000 people died, thousands of people were injured and 3000 people are still missing. The earthquake desolated almost the entire region as 80% of buildings were destroyed and people who survived are suffering  from a  lack of basic products and utilities. One of the first aid actions after the earthquake was organized by Samjahana Phuyal of the  Social Empowerment by Empowering Women (SEW-W), who is also a fellow in the Vital Voices organization.

On the Polish side the Give Nepali Children a School aid action is organised by the “Let’s Help Children” Foundation represented by its founder Ms Agnieszka Dydycz and Ms Daria Mejnartowicz PhD, COO of Vital Voices Chapter Poland and the  VVLEAD Fellow.

In April of this year Ms. Mejnartowicz approached Mainfreight Poland about joining the initiative. She talked about rebuilding children’s school by the earthquake in the Sindhupalchok region and about children’s needs also when it comes to teaching aids, sports equipment and rebuilding the school’s football field. Thanks to the outpour of support from many donors, Ms. Mejnartowicz managed to obtain the sports equipment and teaching aids, however she needed the cargo to be safely delivered. This is where the team of Mainfreight Poland stepped in. The team offered to transport the cargo free of charge and oversee its safe delivery. One could really feel team spirit and commitment to the success of this aid action.

What’s even more amazing is that the children and families of Mainfreight team members joined in to spread the word, as well as organize talks and fundraisers in schools. During one of such events the volunteers manage to raise over PLN 9.000 to help their peers in Nepal.

We sincerely hope that we truly helped make a difference and change the kids’ lives for the better by giving them a reason to smile.
