Cleaning up in Our Local Community | Mainfreight Phoenix
The Mainfreight team in Phoenix, AZ, was looking for a way to help support our community. One of the programs that the team decided on was the Adopt-A-Street program with the City of Phoenix.
The Adopt-A-Street program enables businesses and others to pick a city street and keep it clean for two years, picking up trash and debris. At a minimum, the street cleanup needs to be completed four times a year. The city offered the Mainfreight team University Drive between 16th and 24th Street as our adopted street, which is two blocks north of the Mainfreight Depot.
Our 1st quarter cleanup was completed, and the Adopt-A-Street sign was installed. The team is proud to have our name on the sign, so the commercial businesses and residents in our area can see how Mainfreight is giving back and supporting our community.
The team collected a pallet of trash, and as we Mainfreighters like a good challenge, winners were placed based of the heaviest bag, fullest bag, and the most piece count! The team was surprised at all the trash you find and how much makes it to the side of the street. After the cleanup, the team also reported to notice and be more aware of trash and litter wherever they would go. By doing this, the team has gained more awareness and appreciation for our environment.
Many team members have taken this experience back to our communities where we live and putting an extra effort to cleaning up our neighborhoods.
“We don’t do it for the glamour; we do it because it builds pride in the place you work & live, and it’s nice to get the thumbs up and honk from passer-byers!"
