Port Operations

Mainfreight Port Operations has grown rapidly through offering customers and excellent service, and is now one of the largest movers of containers onto and off New Zealand’s ports.

Mainfreight’s Port Operations fleet primarily consists of ‘Twenty-Forty Swings’. These swinglift units are capable of lifting and carting 10ft, 20ft and 40ft containers of up to 29 tonne. These units offer Mainfreight Port Operation’s customers maximum flexibility and availability.

Mainfreight Port Operations also utilises flat-deck trailers for cart-only movements and break bulk, low tare weigh skeletal trailers for overweight containers, and heavy rated tipper units with sliding axles for end-tipping.

In Auckland and Wellington, Mainfreight Port Operations are located right on the wharf. This means paperwork can be completed quickly on the spot and any hold-ups of MAF/Customs issues can be resolved immediately and in person.

Mainfreight is directly linked into the major port's computers, which provides instant and accurate access to container status and availability. This also allows us to update customers on vessel arrival and departure times, customs hold or MAF requirements and real-time tracking.

Mainfreight Port Operations in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch link directly with Mainfreight Transport’s domestic network, enabling us to offer a seamless transport service ex-wharf throughout New Zealand.

Good judgment comes from bad experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
